New Student Orientation

We’re excited to welcome you to the University of Washington School of Nursing! New Student Orientation (NSO) is designed to help you get connected, prepared, and ready to begin your journey as a Husky Nurse.

NSO is a required event for all incoming students.

Date: Wednesday, September 23, 2026
Time: 8:00 a.m. – 5 p.m. (check-in begins at 7:30 a.m.)

Important: Access to the building requires a Husky Card. It is very important that you obtain your Husky Card ahead of time, as there will be no opportunity to get one on the day of orientation.

There will be signs directing you to the correct location.

What to Expect

  • Check-in: Between 7:30 – 8:00 a.m.
  • Meals: Coffee, tea, bagels, and pastries will be available in the morning during check-in. Lunch will also be provided (Qdoba steak and chicken, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options). Feel free to bring snacks and a re-fillable water bottle.
  • Dress: There is no formal dress code. Aim for comfortable yet professional.

Before You Arrive

  • Register: The NSO registration form will open Summer 2026.
  • Get your Husky Card: You will need your Husky Card to access various campus buildings. Learn how to obtain yours on the Husky Card Services website.
  • Plan ahead for transportation and parking: Visit UW Transportation Services for parking and commuting information. Your Husky Card also serves as your U-PASS for public transit.
  • Order your clinical nametag (ABSN & BSN Students ONLY): You do not need the nametag for orientation, but you will need it by the first day of class.
    1. Visit the UW School of Nursing name badge ordering page.
    2. Enter your name (First Name and Last Initial) and job title (Student).
    3. Add the name tag to your cart and complete checkout.
  • Professional headshots: While not required, professional headshots can be helpful during your program. We recommend getting one prior to the start of your program using one of these resources:

Accessibility and Accommodations

Orientation is a required part of your program. If you need accommodations, please email asknursing@uw.edu at least 48 hours before NSO.

For access to Lactation & Wellness Rooms, complete the request form on the Health Sciences lactation rooms page prior to NSO so Classroom Services can approve access and send you the room code.
