🎓 Convocation Participation Steps – Complete The Following Steps

Apply to Graduate

STEP 1

To be eligible to graduate and have your name included in the program, submit and approve your graduation application.

If you are unsure whether you’ve completed this step, please connect with your academic advisor as soon as possible.

Award & Speaker Nominations

STEP 2

Help us recognize the people who shaped your experience.

Nominate faculty members who made a lasting impact on your learning, growth, and success. You can also nominate a peer—or yourself—to serve as a student speaker at convocation. We will select separate speakers for undergraduate and graduate programs.

Submit Jumbotron Photos

STEP 3

We may display submitted photos on the jumbotron during the ceremony. Photos should celebrate your journey, achievements, and community. Choose from two submission options:

UW Commencement Registration

STEP 4

All students participating in Convocation must complete the UW Commencement Registration/Order Form—even if you do not plan to attend UW Commencement.

Complete this step to:

  • Order your cap and gown
  • Purchase parking permits (including for SoN Convocation)
  • Indicate accessibility needs for guests

🎓 Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

No—you do not have to participate in Convocation. This is an optional ceremony.

Yes—you must wear a cap and gown to participate in the ceremony. Please see the section on UW Commencement Registration for more information.

No—you do not need tickets for the School of Nursing Convocation ceremony, and your guests do not need to register.

No—there is no limit on the number of guests you may invite.

Yes—we will share a livestream link closer to the event date, and we will post a recording afterward.

Not yet. You must also register for the SoN Convocation ceremony.

No. Guests must remain seated in the audience and cannot participate in the processional or stage crossing.
