New Student Orientation

We’re excited to welcome you to the UW School of Nursing! The New Student Orientation (NSO) is designed to help you get ready for your program and connect with your new community.

Please log in to the Admissions Portal to complete your RSVP for NSO.

  • Portal Note: You already have an account in the portal; this is what you used to submit your Intent to Register when you accepted admission into your program of study. Click Forgot Password if you don’t remember your login information, or contact sonapply@uw.edu if you aren’t sure which email address your account is attached to.

Before You Arrive

  • Get your Husky Card: You will need your Husky Card to access the Magnuson Health Sciences Center (HSB). Cards are not available during orientation. Learn how to obtain yours on the
    Husky Card Services website.
  • Bring your laptop: You’ll use it during sessions.
  • Plan ahead for transportation: Visit UW Transportation Services for parking and commuting details. Your Husky Card also serves as your U-PASS for public transit.
  • Submit the photo release form: Sign our online form granting or declining permissions to be photographed during UW-sponsored events.

Orientation Schedule

Day 1

Wednesday, September 17, 2025
8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. (check-in begins at 8 a.m.)

Day 2

Thursday, September 18, 2025
Check-in and start times vary by program:

  • DNP: 7:30 – 8 a.m.
  • ABSN & BSN: 8 – 8:30 a.m.
  • PhD: 8:30 – 9 a.m.

Important: There are two Health Sciences buildings on campus. Orientation is in the Magnuson Health Sciences Center (HSB), attached to UWMC-Montlake — not the newer Health Sciences Education Building (HSEB). Signs will be posted outside to guide you.

The main lobby doors on Pacific Street are the only unlocked entrance.

What to Expect

  • Check-in: Between 8 – 8:30 a.m. in the Health Sciences Lobby.
  • Meals: Coffee, tea, and pastries will be available both mornings. Lunch will be provided on Day 1 (Qdoba with chicken, beef, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options). Feel free to bring snacks and a water bottle.
  • Dress: There is no formal dress code, but your professional headshot will be taken on Day 1. Aim for comfortable yet professional.

Accessibility and Accommodations

Orientation is a required part of your program. If you need accommodations (including access to lactation or wellness rooms), please email asknursing@uw.edu at least 48 hours before NSO.
