This year’s topic: Health is Wealth — Closing gaps for healthy people and thriving economies

Good health is good for business. So why are leaders ignoring the solutions to thriving health systems and economies?

If you knew of one or more interventions that could prevent millions of premature deaths and preserve health and well-being with minimal upfront costs—while also boosting economies—how quickly would you act?

For more than four decades, global health experts and world leaders have made commitments to deliver health for all but have failed to take the necessary steps to close the gaps that would put people first.

These steps include investing in primary health care and nurses, and eliminating inequalities in access to care, including workforce shortages and chronic poverty.

Our lecture will focus on nurses’ central role in achieving universal health coverage—assuring access to quality, affordable care and transforming health systems from an illness focus to one of lifelong wellbeing through primary and preventive care.

Around the world, nurses must advocate for the investments and policy changes that will create opportunities for them to deliver substantial health and economic benefits to their people and nations.
