We help you navigate your UW School of Nursing (SoN) journey.

Advisers help you in exploring career pathways, understanding program requirements, and connecting with resources that support your success and well-being throughout your time at the School of Nursing.

Undergraduate advising

Undergraduate Advising

Faculty advising for undergraduate students can take many forms, including the Undergraduate Program Director, the BSN Coordinating Committee Chair, and faculty who teach within the undergraduate program.

  • Providing guidance on exams, program milestones, and degree progress
  • Mentoring you to help clarify professional goals and university academic experiences (including providing referral of resources to support student success)
  • Preparing you for successful clinical rotations within our partner sites

Professional academic advisers support you through your program in various ways:

  • Connecting with on-campus and community resources to help you succeed
  • Helping you understand degree or certificate requirements
  • Exploring educational and career pathways
  • Navigating School and University policies and procedures
  • Hosting advising sessions for you

DNP advising

DNP Advising

As a DNP student, you work directly with your Specialty Director within your specialty track. They support you by:

  • Helping you navigate specific coursework, program milestones, and degree progress
  • Providing guidance on exams and petitions for previous coursework equivalency
  • Mentoring you to help clarify professional goals and academic experiences
  • Hosting advising sessions specific to your track

Professional academic advisers support you through your program in various ways:

  • Connecting you with on-campus and community resources to help you succeed
  • Helping you understand degree or certificate requirements
  • Exploring educational and career pathways
  • Navigating School and University policies and procedures

PhD advising

PhD Advising

During your first year, you are assigned a Faculty Adviser to support your transition into the program. Once you select your supervisory/dissertation committee, your Supervisory Committee Chair assumes Faculty Adviser responsibilities.

  • Helping you navigate coursework and develop your Program of Study
  • Providing guidance on exams, PhD milestones, petitions for previos coursework equivalency, and ocerall academic progress
  • Connecting you with resources that promote academic success and wellbeing
  • Engaging and mentoring you in scholarly activities, such as research, publications, and experiential learning opportunities
  • Mentoring you as you clarify professional goals
  • Reviewing course selections each quarter and recommending coursework
  • Identifying potential faculty who may be a good fit for your supervisory committee
