Applications are now open for the second cohort of the Firearm Injury Prevention Research in Nursing (FIPRN) Scholars Program.
The program is hosted by the CU Anschutz College of Nursing, Firearm Injury Prevention Initiative, and Injury & Violence Prevention Center.
This 12-week hybrid training initiative is designed to equip early-career scientists in nursing and allied fields with research skills in firearm injury prevention, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and build a national network of scholars committed to community-engaged research. Scholars will also be matched with a mentor with experience and expertise in the field based on their individual research interests.
The program includes a 3.5-day in-person intensive in Aurora, CO, from February 1 – 4, 2027, followed by weekly virtual sessions from March through May 2027. There is no cost to participate. Travel, lodging, and meals for the in-person intensive are covered for accepted scholars.
The deadline to apply is October 12, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as space allows.
We encourage applicants from nursing, public health, medicine, and related fields to apply, even if you are new to firearm injury prevention research.
