Applications open: Firearm Injury Prevention Research in Nursing Scholars Program
Applications are now open for the second cohort of the Firearm Injury Prevention Research in Nursing (FIPRN) Scholars Program.
The program is hosted by the CU Anschutz College of Nursing, Firearm Injury Prevention Initiative and Injury & Violence Prevention Center.
This 12-week hybrid training initiative is designed to equip early-career scientists in nursing and allied fields with research skills in firearm injury prevention, foster interdisciplinary collaboration and build a national network of scholars committed to community-engaged research. Scholars will also be matched with a mentor whose experience and expertise align with their individual research interests.
The program includes a 3.5-day in-person intensive in Aurora, Colorado, from Feb. 1-4, 2027, followed by weekly virtual sessions from March through May 2027.
There is no cost to participate. Travel, lodging and meals for the in-person intensive are covered for accepted scholars.
The application deadline is Oct. 12, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as space allows.
Applicants from nursing, public health, medicine and related fields are encouraged to apply, including those who are new to firearm injury prevention research.
