Queer Mentor and Peer Program Applications Open

Applications are open for the Queer Mentor and Peer Program

The Q Center’s Queer Mentor and Peer Program (QMPP) is seeking mentor, mentee and peer applicants. This year’s program focuses on professional development and career support for LGBTQ+ and allied students, staff and faculty.

Participants will be matched one-on-one with a mentor, mentee or peer based on their application preferences, shared identities, professional goals and backgrounds.

Important dates and details

  • Application deadline: November 20
  • Match notifications: December 11
  • Application capacity: The program can accept up to 100 applicants.
  • Orientation: All participants must attend a mandatory orientation.

After orientation, participants will receive communications every two weeks and professional development materials from the Q Center. These resources will help guide conversations between participants and their matches, who will meet at times that are convenient for both people.

Program roles

Mentors bring expertise and guidance for queer and trans people entering their career paths. Mentors may:

  • Share knowledge
  • Offer constructive and generative feedback
  • Support networking strategies and opportunities
  • Help cultivate professional and personal growth

Mentees bring initiative and curiosity by seeking constructive feedback, asking targeted questions and applying advice to real-world professional challenges.

Peers provide companionship and accountability by setting goals, tracking milestones and following through on helpful tasks agreed upon during sessions.

About QMPP

QMPP is an evolving, relationship-driven program that seeks to challenge traditional ideas about mentorship. The program provides a loosely structured, safe and affirming environment where participants’ sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions are supported and celebrated while they pursue professional development.

Note: QMPP is not a job training program.
