Apply for de Tornyay Center Scholarships by Oct. 15
The de Tornyay Center for Healthy Aging offers scholarships to undergraduate and graduate nursing students pursuing research or investigative projects related to healthy aging.
Scholarship funds are unrestricted and are intended to support students while they complete their research or project. Faculty mentors provide individual guidance and serve as valuable resources throughout the process.
Application deadline
Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 5 p.m.
Award amounts
- Undergraduate and master’s students: $5,000
- Doctoral students: $10,000
Eligibility
- Doctoral students: Must be enrolled full time in a UW School of Nursing doctoral program and have a doctoral committee chair who agrees to provide mentorship. Students who received the first-year de Tornyay predoctoral scholarship are not eligible.
- Master’s students: Must be enrolled full time in a UW School of Nursing master’s program in nursing at UW Bothell or UW Tacoma and have a faculty mentor to guide their research.
- Undergraduate students: Must be enrolled full time in the UW School of Nursing as a junior or senior nursing student and have a mentor to guide their research.
Selection criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Relevance to gerontology and healthy aging
- Significance of the proposed project
- Feasibility of completing the project by the end of the current academic year
- Professional commitment to gerontology
- Quality of the application, including complete responses to application questions and proofreading
Only completed applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.
Preference is given to students who:
- Have not received a previous Healthy Aging Scholarship
- Plan to graduate within the next 12 months
