Penn Injury Science Center (PISC) Trainee Learning Lab

The Penn Injury Science Center (PISC) is now recruiting for this year’s Trainee Learning Lab. The lab is open to graduate-level trainees in injury science, including students, research staff, capstone mentees, and others with a strong interest in the field. Postdocs with limited experience in injury science are also welcome. This lab is open to trainees and partners affiliated with Injury Control Research Centers, the Society for the Advancement of Injury and Violence Research (SAVIR), and those interested in becoming affiliated with SAVIR or the ICRCs.

Trainees will meet virtually once a month on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. Eastern to discuss and interpret peer-reviewed articles related to injury and violence research. Authors and co-authors will also join select sessions to answer questions about their work.

By the end of the 8 sessions, which run from October through May, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate at least one aspect of injury and violence as a major social and health problem
  • Describe common research designs and methods used in injury science
  • Apply skills in critically interpreting research articles using a scientific lens
  • Present their work or training progress during the May mini-conference virtual session

  • Session 4: January 20, 2027
  • Session 5: February 17, 2027
  • Session 6: March 17, 2027
  • Session 7: April 21, 2027
  • Session 8: May 19, 2027, mini-conference with an opportunity for trainees to present
