Survey for Nurses on Speech-Language Pathologist Collaboration

Survey Opportunity: Perceptions of Speech-Language Pathologists by Nurses Across Interdisciplinary Medical Settings

The goal of this research is to better understand how nurses who work with speech-language pathologists (SLPs) view interdisciplinary practice in their settings, and how those perceptions may relate to referrals and team collaboration.

Nurses and SLPs share many patient populations, but their relationship is still understudied. This study aims to add to the research on interdisciplinary collaboration, role clarity, and referral practices in medical settings. It also seeks to better understand why nurses may sometimes take on SLP-related responsibilities and why SLPs are not included on some interdisciplinary teams.

The findings may help improve communication, clarify professional roles, and support better collaboration between nurses and SLPs. Because both professions work across a wide range of settings and patient populations, this study also hopes to highlight how collaboration may differ by environment.
