October Coffee Connections: Paint and Puzzles

This academic year, the Office of Graduate Student Equity & Excellence (GSEE) and the Center for Communication, Difference & Equity (CCDE) are co-hosting Coffee Connections. This is a space for students to drop in, unwind, grab refreshments and connect with the community through art and creativity.
Our October event is the first of the academic year. Students are welcome to bring personal crafts or games to enjoy independently or with others over snacks. Puzzles and paint-by-number activities will also be available. All activities are optional.

Community Connections: Our Biggest Event of the Year

Community Connections is GSEE’s signature welcome event for incoming and returning graduate students and its biggest event of the year. The event brings first-generation students and students from diverse perspectives and experiences together across disciplines. It is a welcoming space to meet peers, make new connections and strengthen your sense of community.
On Day 1, students can join a virtual student panel on Zoom to learn tips, strategies and recommendations for succeeding in graduate school from continuing students.
On Day 2, GSEE will host an in-person reception for new and returning graduate students. Come as you are, invite graduate students from your department or attend on your own and enjoy time with the graduate community. The reception will include:
- Food
- Crafts
- Giveaways
- A photobooth
- A dance floor

Call for Proposals: Scholars’ Studio
Submit a proposal by Thursday, October 29, at 5 p.m. PT.
Are you a graduate student who wants to strengthen your presentation skills for a general audience? Submit a proposal to give a five-minute, low-stakes and engaging lightning talk about your capstone, research or pedagogy.
Scholars’ Studio is an opportunity to practice communicating your work in front of a supportive, general audience without relying on technical or academic jargon.

Autumn Quarter Pop-in & Paint with GSEE
Pop-in & Paint with GSEE sessions are drop-in hours for students who want to meet with staff, chat with peers or relax in the office between classes. These sessions also provide a space to decompress or take a break from the day.
During autumn quarter, Pop-in & Paint with GSEE will be held once a month on Tuesdays from 1 – 2:30 p.m. PT, beginning October 20 at CMU 032. Join GSEE for paint-by-number activities, snacks and conversation.
