From PhD Admissions to Center Stage
Angela Bennett, a UW Nursing PhD student, is telling a story at The Moth GrandSLAM on December 17. She is sharing a personal story about overcoming a challenge during her PhD admissions journey.
What is The Moth? The Moth is an internationally recognized nonprofit celebrating true, personal stories told live without notes. Ordinary people share extraordinary experiences—hilarious, heartbreaking, surprising, and inspiring.
Why does storytelling matter in nursing? Storytelling builds empathy, confidence, public speaking, and communication skills essential for patient care, research presentations, and advocacy. In 2024, the Gates Foundation awarded The Moth $2 million to advance global health advocacy through storytelling, including maternal and child health, tuberculosis awareness, and women’s empowerment.
