TA Opportunity in Department of Pharmacy (PHRMCY 531, 532, 536)

The University of Washington Department of Pharmacy is hiring a Teaching Assistant for a 9-month appointment (autumn, winter, spring) to support PHRMCY 536, 531, and 532 in the Pharmacotherapeutics course series for the Doctor of Pharmacy program.

General Duties/Description: 

Pharmacotherapeutics is a 7-course series which is a critical component of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program curriculum. This course series provides a foundation in knowledge for patient-centered clinical case management. This TA position supports 3 of the courses in this series.

Autumn quarter (50% FTE; 20 hrs/week): PHRMCY 536 Pharmacotherapeutics VI

Provides a foundation in knowledge for patient-centered clinical case management. Includes assessment and pharmacotherapeutic management of issues related to gender-related health and care, reproductive health, geriatrics, rheumatological diseases, and diseases affecting the urological, dermatological and ophthalmic systems. The instructor for this course is Prof. Laura Hart, and the course meets on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30 AM – 11:20 AM.

Winter quarter (50% FTE; 20 hrs/week): PHRMCY 531 Pharmacotherapeutics I

First course in a 7-course series providing a foundation in knowledge for patient-centered clinical case management. Includes introduction to pharmacotherapeutics and special populations, over-the-counter medications and self-care.  The instructor for this course is Prof. Mary Hebert, and the course meets on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM.

Spring quarter (50% FTE; 20 hrs/week): PHRMCY 532 Pharmacotherapeutics II

Second course in a 7-course series providing a foundation in knowledge for patient-centered clinical case management. Includes assessment and management of drug-related hypersensitivity and various bacterial, fungal, and viral infectious diseases. The instructor for this course is Prof. Brian Werth, and the course meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:30 PM – 3:20 PM.

TA Responsibilities Include: 

  • Attend all class sessions and be available for office hours
  • Assist with course instructional support, including preparation of course materials
  • Provide classroom technology support
  • Grading and scoring
  • Manage Canvas course site, including posting lecture notes, articles, and other course materials
  • Monitor and support Canvas discussion boards
  • Monitor/grade participation in class
  • Facilitate and grade small group case discussions
  • Manage Panopto or Zoom recordings
  • Oversee office hours and student makeups as needed
  • Proctor exams and support course exam/quiz preparation using Canvas or ExamSoft as applicable (training will be provided by department staff)
  • Send reminders and parking information to guest instructors as applicable
  • Support instructor with class-wide communication, including responding to general student inquiries

Requirements

Current UW graduate student with clinical training or experience (e.g., PharmD, DNP, BSN, MD, or similar background); strong communication and organizational skills.

Salary

The Department of Pharmacy TA positions are paid at the General/Base, Non-Variable Rate. This position is eligible for a full tuition waiver and all benefits of UAW Academic Student Employees.

Role details: The TA will help facilitate and grade small group case discussions and must have clinical experience to support applied learning in pharmacotherapy.
